Data being #2
Data Being #2 is constructed from image and audio fragments that remained on a second-hand digital device, transformed through a process of algorithmic dissection and recomposition. The images are sliced into unpredictable pieces and rearranged in shifting sequences, while the audio is fragmented into milliseconds and reassembled into erratic, dissonant patterns. A broken digital photo frame is placed inside an empty snack bag, where scattered pills and pill cases accompany it, forming a material condensation of contemporary contradictions, in which consumption, care, and technological residue converge. The reflective inner surface of the bag projects the image sequences back onto themselves, but its blurred, wrinkled texture produces a distorted reflection that resists clarity.
The installation highlights the instability of perception and the fractured ways memory is mediated through technological residues. Images and sounds appear to return through reflection, yet their forms are unstable—doubled, distorted, and incomplete. The reflective surface functions as a fragile membrane of perception, where self-image is fragmented, and familiarity continually collapses into estrangement.
At the same time, the presence of pills and tablets alongside the digital device intensifies this atmosphere, pointing toward the entanglement of bodily vulnerability, everyday habits, and technological mediation. This juxtaposition underscores the ways in which intimate material—whether physical or digital—becomes unstable when displaced from its original context.
By embedding fragile reflections and everyday residues into a sculptural assemblage, Data Being #2 reframes digital traces as presences that resist coherence. In their recomposed state, they oscillate between memory and invention, intimacy and distance. The work suggests that once stripped of their referential function, such fragments may evolve into speculative entities that reveal the fragility of perception, the instability of identity, and the contradictions of contemporary existence.
